Since the 1970s, another tennis facility provided four indoor courts for Wooster area tennis programs, resulting in a very active community of tennis players. When that facility closed in 2015, it left hundreds of tennis players without an indoor tennis home. They found themselves having to travel out of town during the cold months to continue to play the game.

At the same time, Richard Seaman, a passionate tennis player, retired from a 40 year career as a CEO of Seaman Corporation. He had a dream to fill that void. The Aspen Racquet Club was born. Designed to meet the needs of the existing tennis community as well as to develop the full potential of the lifelong sport of tennis in this area, Aspen Racquet Club is a six court indoor tennis facility equipped to host United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournaments, provide recreational and competitive league opportunities, and offer an array of high quality, professionally staffed programs for players of all ages and abilities.

The club will also feature Seaman Corporation's FiberTite roofing membraine and a 254KW solar array on its roof that is designed to generate enough power to meet the majority of its annual electric needs.

The Aspen Racquet Club name is inspired by the goal of supporting and servicing a tennis community: an aspen grove is the largest single living organism on earth. Each tree appears to stand on its own, but all are part of a single plant, sharing markings and characteristics unique to the grove.

Approximately ten to twelve acres of land surrounding the Aspen Racquet Club will be donated to the City of Wooster, to be developed into a corporate recreational park for associates of the various businesses in this area. It will be open to the public as well. The proposed park will feature walking paths and pavilions. Additional features such as Wi-Fi accessibility, workstations, benches, and a small pond are under consideration. The ultimate design of the park will be the result of collaboration with the City of Wooster, Seaman Corporation, and park planning resources. The actual park development will occur in multiple phases.

The investment in the tennis club and the park will benefit the general public along with the associates of nearby local businesses, and will contribute to the health, wellness and quality of life initiatives of our community.
